How I might support you

Common issues I encounter in my work with clients are:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Work-related stress

  • Intrusive thoughts

  • Health anxiety

  • Trauma

  • Abuse

  • Bereavement & other life losses

  • Chronic illnesses

  • Autism and/or ADHD - please note that I am not qualified to assess for autism or ADHD but often work with those who feel that they may have autism/ADHD or already have a diagnosis.

  • ADHD - again, not for the purposes of diagnosis

Whatever you bring to our time together, I will invite you to let me know how I can best attend to your individual needs and   I will aim to make you as comfortable and as safe as possible.

My theoretical approach

My core training was as an integrative counsellor, my model being relationship based, drawing on both person-centred and psychodynamic theories. These theories continue to inform the way I practise and the quality of the therapeutic relationship is a significant contributor towards positive change but the reality is that work is often time-limited resources.

Over the years, I have added to my skills, including the foundations of CBT and working in a trauma-informed way which complements my original working model. I have a variety of resources to help clients when they get stuck as sometimes a different approach or perspective is all that is needed to get going again.

I have a lot of experience working for Employee Assistance Programmes which means I have worked with a large number of clients from diverse backgrounds and presenting problems. This particular type of work is limited to 6 or 8 sessions so I have learned to be very focussed in the way I work.

My more recent work experience has been working with those who are either awaiting or have had a diagnosis for autism or ADHD.  A diagnosis can bring mixed feelings and this is something we can address in therapy.
